The Commons on Marice is Planning its most Musically Enchanting Senior Prom Ever with 14-Piece Twin Cities’ Orchestra

“Intergenerational Royal Court” Includes Prom Kings & Queens from the Senior Living Community and Eagan High School.

EAGAN, Minn. (May 28, 2014) — The Commons on Marice, a Platinum Service® senior living community in the Twin Cities, managed by The Goodman Group, knows what its residents love, bringing music to their ears and dancing in the aisles. This year’s Senior Prom theme is “Some Enchanting Evening,” featuring big band entertainment on Thursday, May 29 from 4:00-7:30 p.m. This formal dance will feature noted Twin Cities’ clarinetist Jerry O’Hagan and his 14-piece orchestra. The “Intergenerational Royal Court” crowning of their king and queen will be done by the Prom King and Queen from Eagan High School.

“Our senior residents love big band music and dancing, and they love that it has gained popularity across multiple generations thanks to nationally televised celebrity dance shows and movies,” said Mary Yaeger, Executive Director at The Commons on Marice. “We have residents from 60 to 101 who are prolific dancers and can teach younger dancers some classic moves. Dance enriches our residents’ lives in many ways. It provides a great social activity, alleviates stress, promotes mobility and fitness, and is simply lots of fun,” she added. “Jerry O’Hagan & His Orchestra have performed throughout the Twin Cities and upper Midwest for 25 years and we are so pleased to have them at this major event.”

The Commons on Marice Prom King and Queen candidates are nominated by the residents.  This years court has 2 gentleman who are both 100 years old!  This years Prom King and Queen from Eagan high school are Peter Doebler and Quenisha Shite.  Both are very excited to be a part of this special day.  The Commons on Marice and Eagan High School have made this a tradition for the past 11 years.

With an extensive song play list, the band’s repertoire includes waltzes, foxtrots, east and west coast swing, rhumnas, tangos, sambas, cha chas, mambos and more. Band leader, Jerry O’Hagan, plays swing clarinet in the style of Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. The band includes musicians who have played with such big name entertainers as The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Larry Elgart, Mel Torme, Artie Shaw, Ray Charles, Maynard Ferguson, and others. Charmin Michelle, who sings in the style of Billie Holliday, is the band’s featured female vocalist.

Not to be overlooked, Dining Services Director Kevin Randazzo and his culinary team at The Commons on Marice are preparing a Prom menu that is worthy of the royal occasion, featuring a taste of the flavors, beauty and romance of Venice. Prom attendees will feast on Seabass with lemon caper sauce, Bucatini with meat suace, Gnocchi, fresh vegetables, brioche bread, Tiramasu and gelato. Appetizers will include smoked salmon and phyllo dough wrapped asparagus.
