EAGAN, Minn. (Nov 21, 2011) — The Commons on Marice, a senior living community located in Eagan, Minn., recently  received the Excellence in Assisted Living Award through Care Providers of Minnesota, a state-wide association for older adult health services.

Mary Yaeger, housing director at The Commons on Marice, and her staff were recognized at the Care Providers of Minnesota’s annual convention, held last week in Minneapolis.  Only two other Minnesota facilities have earned the award since 2005. The award recognizes an assisted living facility for exemplary dedication and commitment to quality in the care of its residents and the work life of its employees.

The Excellence in Assisted Living Award is the most prestigious award for which a senior housing facility can apply.  The application is demanding, requiring detailed information ranging from person-directed care, to financial stewardship, to employee satisfaction.  If an applicant attains a certain score on their written nomination, a judging committee from Care Providers of Minnesota tours the facility, scoring the establishment on its physical attributes, as well as interaction with residents and staff.

The Commons on Marice was the recipient of the prestigious honor due in part to their beautiful campus, but more importantly, to the staff who truly work to make residents feel at home, welcome, and comfortable.  The judging committee was impressed with The Common’s 20 customer service standards, called “Platinum Service,” with the first standard stating:  “I place our residents at the center of everything I do, personalizing my services to meet their preferences. “

Upon receiving the award, Yaeger commented, “We are immensely pleased to be chosen for this state-wide award.  Winning this is merely a reflection of the positive attitude and quality living experience that we are honored to bring to our residents. It is on their behalf that we  receive this award!”

Yaeger and her staff were presented with the award in front of a gathering of 500 peers, capping an evening of recognizing individuals and organizations for their efforts to enhance the lives of those who are part of the long-term care community.
